How to choose the size of Steel Strut Channel
41 x 41 strut channel v 41 x 21 unistrut channel, which one should you choose?
Often, people will specify 41 x 41 unistrut C steel channel or U steel channel thinking it is much more durable than the latter.
But the fact is, the very marginal additional strength that it provides is negligible when compared to 41 x 21 channel strut or solar strut channel or cable tray support.
What really determines the load-bearing capacity mainly comes down to two things:
(1)Whether the anchor/fixings in the drop rods supporting the load are correctly positioned and installed.
(2)Whether the load can be transferred to the anchor and substrate as opposed to the channel itself.
If these above points can be proven, then there isn’t much incentive to choose 41 x 41 c steel channel.
In fact, you could save a lot of money and space using the shallower (41 x 21) steel strut channel, especially in congested areas.
What you should really be focusing on is the correct installation of anchors, and don’t worry about the rest.
